"Winding Architecture" was the topic of my bachelors' thesis project. It is mainly about the application of digital fabrication in architecture. The idea was to create a structure with super light weight material using a robotic arm. During my thesis I focused on the development of a fabrication technologie manly based on already existing research papers. Therefore I build a multitude of prototypes and tested the behaviour of fibre combosit material and robotic movement. Using parametic desing tools and engineering software I developed a fabrication method based on fibre winding. Very important for that process is the directional strenght of the material. In order to get a satisfying material performance it is necessary to wind with different speeds and angles. The best fibre to use for this kind of structe would be carbon firbe, its stenghts is very close to steels'. Unfortunately they are very expenisive, therefore they are used selectivly only in the positions with the highest loads. The remaining structure consists of the way cheeper glass fibres.
